We all have forgotten something at some point in our lives. Some of us need reminders about most everything. We get so caught up in life, we tend to forget what’s important. We tend to forget the large picture. Yet God continues to remind us. He watches us as we listen to His word in church, as we have good ideas and intentions to do things for Him and then He gently reminds us again and again to stay on track for Him.
1 Samuel 12:7 “Now stand here quietly before the Lord as I remind you of all the great things the Lord has done for you and your ancestors.”
God reminds us of His love. He tells us over and over again to love others and He cares about them. He knows how wonderful our lives will be if we showed love to others rather than anger, fear or resentment. God knows if we show love for one another, we will be able to set an example for Him and give Him the glory in the situation and the outcome.
God reminds us of what to put first in our lives. He knows when we put other things before Him, we’ll not be happy. He just wants us to be happy and to obey Him. He takes things away when we get to dependent on them. He allows things to cease working right when we think we have things handled and forget to keep Him first in all we do.
How patient is our God! When He says put no other gods before me, He’s probably wondering who in their right mind would want to put any other gods before Him. He is great and good and cares about us. He wants what is ideal for us. When we put other gods before him such as work, money, family, etc., do we really believe those gods are going to love and care for us as much as He does?
God reminds us of our rewards. He tells us over and over again in the Bible about the riches He has in store for us. He tells us of the good things He has the ability to do for us. He tells us of how He wants to handle all of our problems. He just keeps reminding us and we keep drifting away. We keep going places we shouldn’t and doing things we have no business doing and then wonder why things are happening to us.
When are we going to remember God has everything under control? When are we going to remember God has a plan and we’re part of it? If we need to be constantly reminded, God will remind us; however, we can’t do His will if we continue to slip back into the things of the world and lose our focus on Him. If we continue to slip and then have to be brought back, we’ll be in a vicious loop. When we get caught going around in circles, we never really get anywhere.
We are so blessed to have God’s gentle and sometimes loud reminders to get us back on track. He adores us enough to remind us over and over how to live for Him. With His help, we can live for Him daily and remember what it is He wants us to do. However, we have to be willing to listen and to take action. Then, with His reminders, we can remember all the great things He has done and can do through us so we can make a difference.
Psalm 103:2 “Let all that I’m praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.”
