how can i sleep better? i shouldn't need 11-14 hours.
Answer:
Regulate your sleep schedule- try to wake up and go to bed the same time every night, and wake up even if you haven't slept. You are probably not getting deep enough sleep, so you feel the need to sleep later in the morning. Don't drink alcohol or caffeine- alcohol makes you not stay asleep as well, and caffeine makes you not fall asleep so easy- which will mess up your sleep schedule. Create a routine of doing the same things before bed, like reading one chapter of a boring book or yoga or a warm bath. That lets your body know it's time for bed. Exercise regularly and eat healthy but don't eat or work out within a few hours of bed time- it's harder to fall asleep that way. Don't do anything in your bed but sleep- if you study or something there, your body, won't know which it's supposed to do. I don't know how it knows- maybe the sub-conscience- but it does. If you can't sleep after 20 minutes- leave the bed and do something else (nothing active, including video games) until you’re tired. Get an alarm or a friend to make sure you wake up on time. Do not nap. It makes you not get as good a sleep at night. Try to rest yourself while in bed- meditate, or focus on your breathing- don't consider your social life or any thing that worries you, it will give you worse sleep. Don't drink anything right before bed, or you will have to pee. make sure your room is quiet and dark, and a comfortable temperature. You might need a better mattress. Get all your real active stuff done during the day- you don't want to do heavy studying or something that your mind can't let go of right before you sleep. Leave your curtains open so that the sun will help to wake you up- you are made to be awake during the day, and asleep at night. Finally, go to a physician, you might have a sleep disorder and need medication to help.
Answer:
I found a solution yesterday: Listen to traditional/classical chinese music.
I downloaded a few for my phone's playlist, and listened to it over and over - it prepared my body into sleep mode. When I stopped listening, I fell asleep within 5 minutes.
