They’re different types of opioid analgesic (pain killer). Codeine is a natural opiate and is very similar to morphine, Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid.

Codeine is used for mild through to severe pain, and also in things like cough medicines. Oxycodone is used for severe pain.

I think the answer you're probably after is the difference between Oxycodone and Oxycontin? That would be very little. Oxycodone is simply the type of opioid. 'Oxycontin' is a controlled release form of oxycodone - that is, an oxycodone tablet that is released slowly into the body over a period of several hours. 'Oxycodone' can also be used to refer to a quick release form - one that is released immediately into the body.

I hope that makes sense. It's 5:30am, I haven't been to bed and MY oxycodone isn't doing what it should be.
