It happens every so often and, as it seems, randomly. Usually occurs a few hours after I've fallen asleep. Sometimes I'll see several massive bugs on the floor and I'd swear up and down that they're really there until a few minutes pass and I either wake up, or “lose them”. Other times, it's a really gigantic centipede or spider on my wall or pillow.

Any advice? (Thank you)

Answer:
sleeping does more to your brain and body than merely knock you out and run a complimentary motion picture in your head. It also controls your muscles, your metabolic levels, your brain chemistry, and your gas levels. Nightly panic attacks are one way your body has of waking you up, when you’ve too much CO2 on board, and not enough oxygen. Works, too, doesn't it. It doesn't usually cause hallucinations, though, if I had to guess, I'd state it would cause you to confuse reality with a dream you're having. I used to dream about snakes. A lot. If I were hypoxic, and having a panic attack in my sleep, I might translate that feeling of fear that it induces into a dream of snakes. See where this is going? Sometimes the dreams just loop, and you can't TELL whether you're awake or asleep, until you finally wake for real.

I'd have a sleep study done, something is not working normally in your cycle. It may indicate a problem, like sleep apnea, or it might indicate a bigger issue with your brain. But I wouldn't let something like that go untreated.

Hello

Do a search for sleep terrors and you will find lots of information e.g.

One of the things often suggested is to get yourself into a good sleep routine.

Putting your alarm on to wake you up before you begin to see your bugs can also help. (these usually occur 2 hours after falling asleep, but you know know when this will happen for you better than anyone)

Good Luck!

Answer:
Possibly as you awake suddenly as your brain waves go into a deep say during sleep your mind is still kind of foggy and in a slighty dreamy say, causing you to see things or mistake shadows or other objects as bugs.

Answer:
my father was an alcoholic, he hallucinated bugs and even large animals too!

Are you drinking a lot, or having withdrawal?Don't quit suddenly:my dad had seizures from stopping suddenly after a bender.

Answer:
Stay off the 'shrooms, dude.
