Hi

Yes it isn't good to sleep on your left hand side. You compress the heart and make blood flow more difficult. This is according to Ayurevdic teachings I have learned.

Another reason you may find pain on your left hand side is because you’re right handed, and there’s not enough muscle to cover the nerves around your shoulder and down your arm - so yes, you will feel pain here more easily.

Any tension you’ve in this arm, or on the left hand side of the body will be shown up especially when you lie on it. You stress the body, and the body lets you u know that it is uncomfortable by making you experience pain.

Another thing is, you have a major lymphatic duct running down the left hand side of your body in your chest. If you lie on this, your lymphatic circulation, much like the blood becomes less flowing.

The lymphatic arteries and veins don’t have a heart or muscles to pump its contents around like the blood does. So when you lie on a duct (the chest), and another lymphatic node is inside your armpit, on your neck for jaw and if you strain these nodes or functions, you might get a bit of pain to make you aware of your body's uncomfortableness.

I agree with the other members, go and see your physician. Get them to do a full medical on you. Get your colesterol checked, and your iron count - if you have too much iron in your blood your blood won’t flow as freely - it may be thick. Get that checked out. Your physician should listen to your heart and lungs during the checkup.

If you aren't sure, see a specialist - ask your GP which one would be ideal. OR go to another physician for a second view. General Practitioners sometimes don't pick up everything that's wrong with you. But a general full medical should ease your mind on this subject.

Chat to your physician and tell them about your fears and concerns with this pain. Don't dismiss anything. You can't be a hypocondriac, and they won't see you like that. The more information you give them, the better and more accurately they have the ability to diagnose if there’s anything to diagnose.
