in a comic strip years ago there was a cleaning person who unknowingly unplugged someones life support machine to plug in a floor buffer or some piece of cleaning equipment. can this actually happen or is there a safety to prevent it being “accidentally” unplugged?
Answer:
Years ago it could probably of happened. However first you need to understand that a life support machine is just that, so it has to be regulated and cleaned. That means that they have in built alarms and so anyone or any reason for a different reading on several of the monitors and the machine alarms go off and the back up batteries kick in! You can only turn off a life support machine from the mains, providing you’ve first turned off all back up systems.
Answer:
I would think that some kind of alarm would go off if something like that would happen. I know my father has a machine for oxygen and if the power goes out, an alarm will sound.
Answer:
Cleaning personnel aren't granted to use any cleaning equipment of the sort as long as the patient is in ICU and when a room is vacant they only can clean then.
Answer:
you would die.
