Should I stop? Is there anything I can do to make them feel superior?

If something hurts then you need to cease doing it. Yes, stop doing the lunges - knees are tricky and you do not want to cause a permanent injury. Recommend you stop for a bit before doing anything else. For now you should just rest, ice, wrap if needed and put your legs up on soft pillows and just watch some tv. Then after about a week or two look to starting some therapy. There are knee exercises you can do to strengthen the knee, but the stress of the lunge is high, so don't continue to do them. If you haven't done permanent damage you should begin to feel superior in about 2-4 weeks.
