I was sick for 2 days now and I woke up this day with this bad pain in my neck, it's killing me. I've taken pills for the pain, but nothing's working. In what position should I keep it in? What can I do? How long will this last? ![]()
Answer:
Is this pretty much the first time for the pain?
Because if its a chronic pain, the the steps to take are gonna be different from acute pain.
You are saying you were sick for 2 days, and woke up with a killer pain, which leads me to think you slept with your head and or neck in a bad postion and might have pinched or impinged a nerve ( I do it from time to time).
How would you describe the pain? Is it bad but bearable ( and persistent andd nagging) when you look straight ahead, but gets way worse when you turn your head, and does it hurt worse when you look one way, vs the other.
If so, that is nearly guaranteed what you did, and the best thing for it is basically to use penetrating heat to loosen things up, then slowly try to work it out. Don't force anything, but you want to get where you can roll your neck, because usually when you aggravate that area, the muscles kinda clench as a response, and it can even put your neck out of alignment.
A muscle relaxer of some sort is actually going to be far more useful than a actual analgesic, though if you take migraine medication, many of them ( like Maxalt) work similiar to a muscle relaxer. Basically, you want to limber that area up. Hot showers and hot pads are a good begin. If you can get a deep tissue massage of the area, it will also likely do wonders ( though it will hurt like hades to start) and if need be, seeing a chiropractor.
I find usually, if I’m gentle, and use heat right, along with some kneeding of the inflamed area, I cna roll my neck semi vigorously and get it to “pop”, which usually does wonders for realeasing the pressure in the area. But never, NEVER force your neck to pop by hands, as if you do it wrong you can actually lacerate some big vesel or artery along the spine. That is why Chiropractors earnt eh massive bucks, to avoid doing that.
But, if you can pop it by rolling it ( which I just did…got 3 nice ones, and didnt even have to work for them) you’re nto going to harm anything.
Sorry I have the ability to tbe more specific, but there are sooo amny different causes for neck pain.

sorry to hear that you’ve been sick. Never fun. Well, I hope thinks are on the mend, and that the shot took care of your neck. Anything that releieves the tension will usually let things go back where they belong. Report Abuse
Answer:
This answer is right - see a Chiropractor to have it done right.
But basically adjusting yourself isn't dangerous in that way - it just doesn't work and can make you more sore. Kind of like working on your automobile when you don't know what you're doing - bad idea.

So sorry you’re in such pain. Try ice pack on your neck and Ibuprofen, to reduce swelling (But do not take Ibu if you have already taken naproxyn) You might end up seeing a Chiropractor. In the meantime try sleeping on your back with a towel rolled up under your neck and no pillow. Put a couple of pillows under your knees to rest your back. In the AM take a hot shower to rest muscles then do some overhead stretches.
Answer:
Try to put some heating pad for fifteen minutes. If the pain see for more than a week see a physician. My brother has the same problem and he went to see the doctor and he’d a calcification. He’d to get a shot. Check what kind of pillow you are using. If I use a huge pillow that happen to me.
