i had my gallbladder removed 6 years ago. i am now experiencing identical pain in the same spot. can i still be forming stones in my stomach/intestines?

Answer:
A few people have new or recurring episodes of pain that feel like gallbladder attacks even though the gallbladder (and the stones) have been removed. The cause isn’t known, but it might be malfunction of the muscles that control the release of bile and pancreatic secretions into the small intestine. Pain might occur because pressure in the ducts is increased by spasms, which affect the flow. Pain also may result from small gallstones that remain in the ducts after the gallbladder is removed. More commonly, and important, is that the cause is another problem, such as irritable bowel syndrome or even peptic ulcer disease. If you have a doctor's visit coming up soon bring it up with them. If not, and the pain persists you might want to get checked out.
