I've had pain in my wrist/thumb for about a week, a tiny longer probably. I had been keeping it still, and having it like it was in a sling, but I don't have a brace or sling. I have done stupid things the past few days, like trying to finished decorating an Easter basket, and helping my mother carry groceries….I was trying not to do a lot. I'm just sick of the pain.

How Can I Fix The Pain? Buy a brace and a sling? I'm 16. I’ve no money. How do I ask my mother to buy it for me?

Answer:
The key to management of wrist/thumb pain is splinting. The strategy is to rest the joint in the position of best function. Wrist/thumb splints made of plastic or aluminum are available at hospital supply stores and many stores.
Any that fit you’re probably all right. The splint will **** your wrist back just a bit. You can put a cloth sleeve around the splint to make it more comfortable on your skin. Wrap the splint gently with an elastic bandage to keep it in place. That's all there’s to it. Wear it all the time for a few days, then just at night for a few weeks. This easy treatment is all that’s required for most wrist flare-ups.
No major pain medication should be necessary. Acetaminophen and similar medication are all right but probably won't help much. If you know what triggered the pain, work out a way to avoid that activity. Common sense means listening to the pain message.
If the problem persists after six weeks of home treatment, see the doctor. And good luck.
