I'm 5ft 9 and have a large frame. It worked out that my BMI is 26/7. This is baffling, as I work out everyday (getting my heart rate up) for at least 25min. I eat the right foods, if anything I under-eat as I have a hectic lifestyle. I definitely have muscle, I used to row (until this last year) and even when I rowed my BMI was 26/7. I know that the BMI doesnt take in account how much the mucles weighs, bone structure e.t.c, but it's worrying to know my BMI is this high. I've watched programs on healthy eating (e.g Supersize vs. Superskinny) so, according to Gillian Mackeith (I dont particulary like her though) I'd be overweight. My doctors haven't been much help. What should I do?

I'm not really at liberty to get a body fat measurement done anywhere, Boots included

Answer:
the bmi is definitely misleading. my hubbie is 6ft and 215lbs. he's muscular and he's considered obese if you use the bmi. They only take into account ht/wt proportions. there are skinny people with healthy bmi who are flabby and out of shape. I wouldn't worry about it. you sound healthy. if your blood pressure, cholesterol are normal and you are able to eat healthy, exercise- you are good! hope this helps you feel better.

Answer:
well muscle does weight more than fat so you probably have tons of muscle

dont worry about

Answer:
The BMI system is crap.Tall people with lots of muscle and no fat will be considered as obese using this system.

I have a friend who is 6ft 2in tall weighs 15 stone runs 2-3 miles every day and is built like a tank with no fat.

He has run in the london marathon a few times but is giving it up because he is 57 yrs old and its getting a bit much for him.

He still runs the 2-3 miles every day though.

Is he obese.I dont think so.

Answer:
I am 5ft 7, have a large frame and my BMI is 27.6 and I am not obese. I do stacks of exercise too. Gillian Mckeith is a twit. With all the veggies she eats she probably has terminal diarrhoea and that is why she is such a moaning, miserable, self righteous person. Everyone is different. Most professional atheletes have high BMIs as they have a lot of muscle on their bodies. Your weight seems to be staying constant which is much more important as weight fluctuations can be bad for your health.
