Hey, I'm 16, male.
I'm about 5ft 4 and weigh a bit less than 140lbs.
I have no idea what my body fat is at the moment, but I'm pretty sure its higher than I'd enjoy it to be (hell I know it is).
Thanks to all the crap I ate over the summer really.
I've joined a gym and I start on Monday.
I don't really want to bulk at the moment to save me putting on extra body fat (Most of my clothes aren't fitting great at the moment).
Basically is it ok to lose body fat first, then later down the line bulk and watch your weight that its increasing, and your body fat that its not going up too much in relation to your weight?
I think it sounds ok, but I'm not sure what everyone else thinks of it.
Or can I do one superior and lose fat while building muscle at the same time?
I'd give anything for a leaner body right now. Its something I definitely want to work towards.
Answer:
personally I think that's fine. Once you join the gym, you should be able to set up an appointment with a trainer. The consult is usually free, but you pay if you want them to keep working with you. Anyways, Make your diet superior, keep drinking your milk (since you are still growing), and increase water. Do a lot of cardio (whether it's running, power walking, elliptical, etc.) and then just do some strength training to tone(don't lift a lot of weight because that will cause you to bulk up). Once you’re ready to bulk up in muscle there will probably be another diet change, but at that point increase the amount you lift and do three sets of 12 reps on each machine or exercise). Your metabolism is high right now so it shouldn't be too long before you're starting to build up that muscle you want. Good luck!
Answer:
Building muscle burns fat you know, even when you’re sleeping!
But I understand what you want to do….
Do high cardio first, while eating low carb, little or no sugar for the first two weeks to burn fat,
Then “slowly” incorporate carbs back in, as you increase your workout to include weights.
This is what ALOT of people do to lose the fat first…. Low carb (cut ut breads and pasta… but remember, I stated LOW carb, not NO carb!
Good Luck!

Please don't listen to the guy who said low carb diet, you need a well-rounded diet to function properly esp since you're a growing guy. Make sure you eat plenty of whole grains, lean meat, veggies and fruit.
Strength training is an important part of losing weight. As you replace fat with muscle, that extra muscle burns more fat which fastens your weight loss. Muscle is also leaner then fat and therefore unless you go alll out and become a bodybuilder, your clothes should still fit. Dont be too worried about your weight, its just a number instead focus on how you look and feel to gauge your success.
