I plan to eat red kidney beans everyday for breakfast (protein) and was wondering if it's healthy to get them raw, otherwise cooked. Raw; just draining the water out of the can and eating them like that.
If I was to cook them, do I just boil them in water or what?
Answer:
No, they're already cooked before they go into the can, otherwise you wouldn't be able to eat them. Just rinse them (to get that slimy liquid off) and eat away. They're fabulous!
Here's on of my favorite bean concoctions. I rinse different canned beans (garbanzo, black, kidney, etc.) and throw them together with cut up celery, carrots, bell peppers, 1 Tablespoon of olive oil and 4 Tablespoons of red wine vinegar. Toss in some salt, pepper, and garlic powder and let it “marinate” in the fridge for however long you want. I then take it a cup of it to work everyday for lunch. It lasts all week!
Answer:
I cook beans from can, seems safer, by heating them in pan. You can either use the juice the beans come packed in or drain them and add water to heat them. I find draining takes some of the salt out as well as the juices they fix them in.
