Every morning, i take 2 pills that are kinda strong. one of them is a vitamin, and one is an allergy pill called allegra. After a few minutes of digesting them, I feel like im gonna puke. i get all dizzy and start tripping and falling all over the place! i don't know what is happening to me, cuz the doctor said its alright to take both at the same time, and to take them each morning. my parents think its the vitamin, but i need to take the vitamin to help keep my bones strong, since osteoperosis runs in the family. plz help!
Answer:
A regular multivitamin should not cause such a reaction. Sometimes one can feel nauseous after taking a multivitamin because of lowered digestive function. This may be part of what is happening in your case.
However, the overwhelming likelihood is that you are experiencing an adverse drug reaction. See the possible adverse effect below:
“Side effects with Allegra-D 12 Hour and Allegra-D 24 Hour were similar to Allegra 60 mg alone (headache, insomnia, or nausea) and Allegra 180 mg alone (headache, cold, or backache) respectively. Due to the decongestant (pseudoephedrine) component in both Allegra-D 12 Hour and Allegra-D 24 Hour, these products mustn’t be used if you: are taking an MAO inhibitor (a medication for depression) or have stopped taking an MAO inhibitor within 14 days; retain urine; have narrow-angle glaucoma; have severe high blood pressure or severe heart disease. Side effects with pseudoephedrine may include nervousness, restlessness, dizziness, or insomnia. Headache, drowsiness, increased heart rate, palpitations, increased blood pressure, and abnormal heart rhythms have been reported. You should also tell your physician if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma, thyroid disease, impaired kidney function, or symptoms of an enlarged prostate such as difficulty urinating.”
You can try taking only one of the two, multi and allegra, at different times of the day and noting what symptoms arise. If you experience the same symptoms with the multivitamin, try another brand. If you experience the same symptoms with allegra alone, talk to your physician about a substitute anti-histamine.
Also, on a side note, you mention a family history of osteoporosis as a major reason for taking a multivitamin. While calcium, magnesium and other minerals and vitamins are very important for bone structure (of which you should be getting 800 - 1000 mg calcium daily from diet and supplement sources, and half to an equal amount of magnesium), the second most important thing you can do for your skeletal structure is weight-bearing exercises, regularly. The weight is a stress stimulus for your bones to mineralize and strengthen themselves.
All the ideal.
Answer:
Are you taking the pills with food? There are lots of medications you need to take with food or you’ll get adverse effects from them.
I don't believe it would be the vitamin that’s causing this problem though there maybe something in it that you’re allergic too. You could try an different one to see.
I suggest to you talk to your physician again as it might actually be the allergy medication that you are reacting too and he could prescribe a different one.
I hope this helps.
Answer:
Go back to your doctor with the cotainers and pills and tell him what you've told us. That you trip (trip?), feel sick and dizziness.
He might give you something else insted.
Answer:
Don't take them both at the same time. It sounds care about it is just too much for you to handle at once. Take the one with one meal & the other with another meal.
