I am wondering how to use Dong Quai extract to reach maximum results for relief of PMS symptoms. I’ve an extremely heavy flow, and lots of pain associated with my period. Should I only take it during the time when I experience symptoms? Or should I be taking it all the time? Also, is it safe to use with a heavy flow?

Any addition information would be great.

Thanks!

Answer:
It would probably be most beneficial to take it daily until you see some easing of your symptoms, which might take a couple of months. Nutritional supplements don't act the same way as a chemical drug - we're accustomed to taking 2 aspirin and having relief in 30 minutes. With supplements, you have to give it enough time in your body for changes to begin.

Dong quai is an excellent supplement for female distress, but it might work even superior if you add raspberry leaf to your daily regimen. Raspberry leaf helps to calm and soothe the entire female reproductive system, is safe, and affordable. Another good one is black cohosh (not BLUE cohosh) - any combination including these are good and yes, they are all safe to use all the time.

Something you might want to look into is valerian root. It has a mild sedative quality and it might help reduce any cramping or spasms that you’ve during your period. Use it before bed to relax and get a good night's sleep. This one works more swiftly than the others. Don't drive on this until you know how it will effect you.

Hope this helps.
