I was curious can you take iron supplements while on your period meaning is that safe just to randomly take them without a physician consent?? Just curious and wanting to make sure it was safe. Thank you.

Answer:
Hi Mandy,

Yes, you can take iron and it will help especially if you begin to feel tired or light headed during or after your period. Your blood cells need iron - oxygen attaches to the hemes within the red blood cell - so that your body gets sufficient oxygen pumped through your body with the blood.

When you menstruate you lose iron. Supplements help to restore what was lost. Your other option is eating red meat. It helps to restore iron as well.

You’ll have to experiment to see what works ideal for you. Follow the recommended dosage on the bottle during and immediately after your period. I doubt you will need to take them beyond that. As far as going to the doctor - it seems like an unnecessary trip to me. You’re the expert of how you feel. Learn to trust yourself first.

I hope this helped.

Unless you’ve any other medical problems, you can take an iron supplement daily . I like “Slow Fe” . It is time released , so it doesn't upset my stomach .

If your diet is healthy, you’ll already be getting iron in your diet by consuming dark leafy green vegetables like broccoli and spinach. Liver is also another good source of iron. Taking a supplement once a day shouldn't be a problem. Read the directions on the back of the package and do NOT take more than the suggested amount.

If you have any other questions and/or concerns, please contact your physician. He/she will be more aware of any physical conditions that you have.

Hope this helps.

Answer:
Yes but some woman find they irritate their stomach. Take one on a weekend to make sure it settles. I take an iron supplement every other day.
